Lot 17214:
Marlin 39 .22 S/L/LR
The Marlin Model 39, basically the same as the Model 1897 with a pistol grip stock, case-hardened receiver and 24-inch octagonal barrel, was produced from 1922 to 1938. This Marlin is dated to the 1925-26 time frame based on the serial number S1135. The S prefix likely was first used in the 1925-26 era, based on serial number ranges for the non and S prefixed rifles. The known S range of serial codes reported by Brophy (in his 1989 copyrighted book) was S696 – S16135. The Rifle includes an Ivory bead front sight. The Rifle is in amazing shape for its age, showing normal signs of use and wear. This piece of history is sold with a custom built sling. Please see photos.
