Lot 14021A:
Joseph Manton Percussion Cap
RARE ALERT!!! For those that know of Joseph Manton and his story, you’ll know this is a very rare firearm that warrants a fair amount of research. Produced before 1904 (has old Birmingham proof mark "BPC"), this firearm has "Joseph Manton Warranted" on the right side of the wrist and appears to be the improved version of the percussion cap that utilizes his tube lock system. This style of rifle (or "fowler") was made in the transitional period between flintlock and percussion cap. The end of the bore is 17.5mm wide (otherwise known as .69 CAL). The wood furniture has held up very well and comes with a perfectly fitted ram rod. This certainly warrants more research.. Please see photos.
