The Springfield 1884 Rolling Block is a single-shot, breech-loading rifle produced from 1884 to the early 1900s. This serial number brings up an 1888 production date. Known for its robust design, it was chambered in .45-70 Government and saw extensive use by the U.S. military during the Indian Wars and the Spanish-American War. Its distinctive rolling block mechanism allowed for quick reloading and reliable operation.
